A 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Nations FC on Monday sealed their fate, condemning them to relegation to the Division One League, the Communications Director of the Club Kwame Dwomoh has revealed that they are not shocked about their recent performance because his outfit have not been good on the pitch since the commencement of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

The astute Sports journalist disclosed this in an exclusively interview with Tv3 sports on the current state of the club.

” We have not been good enough on the pitch, that’s why we’ve been relegated, things weren’t working for us since day”, Kwame Dwomoh said.

The University of Ghana Stadium in Legon witnessed a dismal performance from the home team on Monday, with Kelvin Ampoful scoring twice and Emmanuel Annor and Sadiq Alhassan adding to the scoreline to hand Nations FC a comprehensive win.

This defeat was not just a loss; it marked the end of Legon Cities’ journey in the Ghana Premier League, with the club accumulating just 25 points from 31 games.
Their inability to keep pace with the title contenders was evident throughout the season, and the final nail in the coffin came in the form of this heavy defeat.

The club’s relegation is a harsh reality to swallow, especially considering their rich history.

Legon Cities, previously known as WA All Stars, were crowned Ghana Premier League champions in 2016.

The club was founded in January 2006 by Kwesi Nyantakyi, a former Ghana FA President and CAF First Vice President.

In 2019, the club was sold and rebranded as Legon Cities FC, with high-profile signings like Asamoah Gyan boosting their prospects.
