The Black Queens of Ghana are set to face the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the semifinal of the biggest women’s football event in Africa on Tuesday, July 22.

A 4-2 victory over Algeria in a quarterfinal penalty shootout through scintillating goalkeeping heroics from Cynthia Konlan ensured Ghana’s passage to the semifinals to face the host country, Morocco.

Ahead of the game, Bjoekegren acknowledged the toughness of the Lionesses but favoured his team’s chances of success.

“It’s going to be a tough game, of course. Maybe the toughest game in the tournament against a strong team… At the same time it’s the game to play, and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Ghana’s Swedish head coach.

A win for the Black Queens will come as a shock to the host country, setting up a mouthwatering final clash between either Nigeria or South Africa.
