Hearts of Oak have strongly rejected allegations circulating online that goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was involved in theft while on national duty with the Black Stars.
The claims surfaced on Friday, with reports from the team’s camp in Vienna suggesting that two Rolex watches and an amount of $2,250 belonging to a team official had gone missing ahead of Ghana’s friendly against Austria.
In a sharply worded statement issued on March 28, the Ghana Premier League side described the allegations as “entirely false, misleading, and defamatory,” firmly denying reports attributed to an unnamed online platform.
The club revealed it had engaged the Ghana Football Association over the matter, with both parties united in dismissing the claims.
The club has engaged directly with the Ghana Football Association, and both parties confirm that there is absolutely no truth to these claims,” the statement said.
Hearts of Oak further indicated that it has taken legal action by reporting those responsible for the perpetrators, including the alleged content creator, to law enforcement agencies and relevant regulatory bodies for investigation and possible sanctions.
The club also sought to calm concerns about Asare’s state of mind, stressing that the goalkeeper remains “in excellent condition, fully focused, and not in any way affected by these baseless claims.”
