Motsepe was endorsed by COSAFA on Sunday during their Annual General Meeting held in Johannesburg as the best candidate to provide the leadership to turn the Confederation of African Football around.

The Mamelodi Sundowns president addressed the media after the COSAFA AGM, which was also attended by FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

“We will be having a formal media conference on Thursday where we will be disclosing the specific context of what we call an action plan,” Motsepe said.

“There you will see specific plans and strategies we have to ensure that African football is indeed respected, recognised, self-sustaining and indeed amongst the best in the world.”

The mining billionaire revealed that one of his plans will be focusing on making sure all zones in African football are part and parcel of his leadership at CAF to serve all regions of the continent.

“So the main purpose for me is to be part of, and to listen to excellent discussions because the best ideas in terms of what is required to make African football the best in the world comes from our zonal leadership,” he explained.

“Our zonal presidents but also the presidents and the leadership of every country, because they have a good understanding of what the challenges are as well as what the opportunities are.

“And I want to conclude by saying we have been travelling throughout the continent, into north, east, west Africa and today we were back home to continue this process of listening, but also engaging in terms of what the plans are.

“Because at the end of the day it is the results that are required. Three, four years from now there must be tangible, practical, visible progress in terms of football.”

Motsepe is up against Mauritana FA president Ahmed Yahya, Senegal FA president Augustin Senghor and honorary Ivorian FA president Jacques Anouma for the continent’s top football job.
