CAF send Wydad walkover warning

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have sent Wydad Athletic Club and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) a warning over the Champions League clash with Kaizer Chiefs.

Wydad management are said to have received a ‘surprise’ statement from CAF with their stance on the Champions League clash against Chiefs that has now been postponed three times.

According to leading Morrocan publication LeSport360, the game originally scheduled for 13 February but has been delayed over Covid-19 restrictions will need to be resolved or they face losing three points.

SAFA made their stance clear this week over the logistical nightmare, claiming CAF need to enforce their rules that state should Wydad be unable to honour the fixture, a 2-0 win should be declared for Amakhosi.

Wydad management and the FRMF have been set a deadline for Sunday 21 February at midnight to find a neutral venue that could host the game or risk losing their group stage opener.

FRMF initially struck an agreement with the Egyptian Football Association to host the clash in Cairo at Al Salam City, but Chiefs’ inability to secure visas to arrive for the agreed date, pushed the fixture to 28 February.

The EFA then rejected the next postponement as Al Ahly were scheduled to face Al Gaish in a league fixture on the same day in the nation’s capital city.

Mamelodi Sundowns could also receive three points with CR Belouizdad receiving the same warning from the African football governing body after their clash was abandoned for the same reason.

Masandawana opened their group stage campaign with a 2-0 victory over Sudanese giants Al Hilal at Loftus Versveld last week Saturday.
