Kaizer Chiefs ban South Africa star Itumeleng Khune
It seems Kaizer Chiefs are quickly trying to put their house in order after goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was banned from social media.
Amakhosi players were recently caught in the stands by TV cameras while busy on their cellphones during the team’s match against SuperSport United.
The players’ actions in the stands – a group that included Willard Katsande and Siphelele Ntshangase – while the match was still in progress was met with mixed feelings in certain quarters of local football.
While some shrugged it off, others believe it showed disrespect to the club, especially since the Glamour Boys are going through a difficult period in both domestic and continental football.
Now KickOff.com understands that the club has issued a warning to Khune not to post and respond to any questions on social media.
“It was not for bad intentions by the club but to help the player [Khune] focus on his soccer career,” says a close source.
“The player has taken the club’s action in good spirits and there are no issues.”
The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper last tweeted on February 1 last month in reference to his lack of regular minutes this season, with his last Instagram post was on January 31 asking his followers for grooming advice.
Efforts to get comment from Chiefs spokesperson Vina Maphosa proved futile after he was reportedly locked in a meeting this afternoon and could not respond to text messages.
