Former Bafana Bafana captain and SAFA technical director Neil Tovey says the appointment of Patrice Motsepe as CAF president will bring a new dawn in African football.
Last week Friday the Mamelodi Sundowns president was elected unopposed as the new leader of the Confederation of African Football.
Tovey, who is the only captain to have ever won a major trophy for South Africa, says with Motsepe being a billionaire it means the federation’s coffers are safe.
“I think it’s a good appointment because he’s got enough money, he doesn’t have to look for money within the federation, you know within CAF,” Tovey tells KickOff.com.
“I think there’ll be improvement in the game because he wants improvement on the African continent. I think he will bring some sponsors and the federation will then be better off. Ja, it’s a good appointment.
“I think there are little adjustments that can be done for the club championships on the continent you know. The coaching licences and all those will need to be looked at and technical stability to the continent.
“The challenges will be getting past those processes that everything gets done from North Africa, and West Africa. He’s got to get a lot of equality throughout the continent. The challenge will be to get rid of that thought that North Africa and West Africa is best.”
