Algerian outfit JS Kabilye and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates picked up a point each from their away trips on match day three of the Total CAF Confederation Cup group phase round on Sunday.

Kabilye held defending champions RS Berkane to a barren draw in Morocco with Pirates picking a similar result from their duel with Libya Al Ahli Benghazi.

With the Sunday evening results, the status quo in both Groups A and B remain the same. In Group A Pirates remain second with five points while Ahly are third with four while in Group B, Kabilye are on five and holders Berkane four.

RS Berkane vs JS Kabilye

Kabilye played the final 13 minutes of the game with 10 men after Malik Raiah was sent off for a second bookable offense. It was an intense match, only devoid of goals with each side having several opportunities to score.

In the 18th minute, Berkane lost the ball cheaply at the edge of the box but were lucky not to be punished as Rida Bensayah’s shot went over the bar.

Berkane had a chance in the 22nd minute but Brahim El Bahraoui saw his shot from inside the box deflected for a corner after the ball had been recycled back into the danger area. Berkane keeper Zouhair Laaroubi was called into action in the 33rd minute making a good save to deny Bensayah who had swivelled in a shot after a ball was chipped behind the defense.

In the second half, the hosts pushed the ante and in the 54th minute came inches close but Hamdi Laachir’s flicked header off an Omar Namsaoui freekick went inches wide. Issoufou Dayo had a chance in the 68th minute when he glanced in a header from another of Namsaoui’s deliveries, but his effort went over the bar.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute with Raiah’s sending off, but Berkane failed to make use of the numerical advantage.
