Referee Kofi Owuso apologises for ‘bad decisions’ in Hearts of Oak’s win over Elmina Sharks
The referee who oversaw Hearts of Oak’s 2-0 win over Elmina Sharks on Sunday has apologised for awarding the home side a controversial penalty and issuing a red card to an Elmina Sharks defender.
Maxwell Kofi Owusu pointed to the spot after Sharks defender, Isaac Donkor was adjudged to have handled a goal-bound shot from Obeng Jnr.
However, replays showed that Donkor had blocked the effort with his shoulder.
Victor Aidoo missed the subsequent penalty for Hearts but Donkor’s red card meant Sharks had to play the rest of the match with 10 men.
The hosts then doubled their lead in the 79th minute when Benjamin Afutu headed in a pass at the near post.
After the match, the referee took to Facebook to apologise, having presumably watched the incident and regretted his call.
