Official: Ex-Real Madrid boss gets Egypt job
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed that former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz will be the new manager of the national team.
Earlier this week, the north African country’s football governing body relieved Hossam El-Badry of his duties following the Pharaohs’ 1-1 draw against Gabon in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Sunday.
The EFA has now confirmed that it is ex-Real Madrid manager Queiroz who will be taking over.
“Carlos Queiroz, coach of the national team,” a statement posted on the EFA’s official Twitter account read.
“The Egyptian Football Association, headed by Ahmed Megahed, decided in its extended meeting to appoint the technical staff of the first national team as follows:
“Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, coach
“Diaa El-Sayed, general coach
“Mohamed Shawky, coach
“Essam El-Hadary, goalkeeper coach”
A statement on the EFA’s official website further provided that the appointments “includes a foreign assistant, a performance analyst, and a rehabilitation specialist.
“Queiroz will arrive at the end of next week, while the administrative, medical and auxiliary devices will be completed during the next meeting.”
Queiroz was the South African national team coach between May 2001 and March 2002, lasting just seven games before joining Manchester United to become Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager.
