An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has ruled Senegal’s Krepin Diatta out of contention for a place at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in January 2022.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury during Monaco’s 2-2 draw against Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille last Friday after scoring his first goal of the season in the game.
The 2019 Afcon breakout star will miss the Afcon scheduled to start from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.
Diatta will undergo an operation that may take him out of action for a long time. Thus, he will as well miss the playoffs of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
For the Monaco winger, it’s not the end of the world. He promises to come back stronger.
“Sad and painful for both my club and my country but life is like this, I keep the faith and I will come back even stronger. Thank you for all the messages of support,” he said on social media.
