The Western Regional Football Association has confirmed that, the 2021/22 Division Two League Season will be commenced on March 4.
The announcement was made known through a letter signed by the Secretary of the Regional Football Association, Andrews Kwesi Eshun, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
The Western Regional Football Association Chairman, Hon Simon Ehomah at the Congress said an additional 51 clubs had joined the initial 99 football clubs in a total number of 150 to compete in the upcoming league season.
He stated that 96 Division two clubs will be relegated at the end of the season across the Western and Western North regions.
However, the Ghana Football Association has decided to extend the deadline for the reduction of teams at the ten Regional Football Associations (RFAs) to the end of the 2023/24 football season.
The decision is to enable the RFAs to execute the assignment of bringing competitiveness and development to the 2nd and 3rd Division Leagues gradually until the end of the 2023/24 season.
GFA Club Licensing Manager, Julius Ben Emunah, speaking at the congress, said the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with Western Regional Football Association, has initiated structures to reduce the 150 clubs to 32 by the 2023/24 season.
According to him, 96 clubs will be relegated at the end of the season whilst 12 Division Three clubs will see promotion into the regional elite competition.
In the 2022/23 season, 66 Division Two Football Clubs will be participating in that season. 48 clubs will be relegated at the end of the season while 14 Division Three clubs will be promoted into the Division Two League.
This means that the 2023/24 season will commence with the projected 32 Division Two League clubs.
