New Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song says he will give his best like he did as a play to “write a new page in the mythical history of the Indomitable Lions”.
The former Cameroon captain’s appointment as head coach was confirmed on Monday, February 28 following the sacking of Antonio Conceicao.
A day after, the 45-year-old two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner took to Twitter to thank the Cameroon government, who released the statement of his appointment, and the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation Samuel Eto’o.
“The Indomitable Lions jersey gave me everything. I am grateful. I am honored to have been chosen to guide the Indomitable Lions.
“Beyond the privilege and the joy that animate me, I measure the importance of responsibility entrusted to me.
“I will give my best, as I did as a player and captain of the selection to deserve the trust given me by the Cameroon government, FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o and its Executive Committee.
“Thank you all for your messages of congratulations and encouragement.
“My staff and I need the support and prayers of millions of Cameroonians to write a new page in the mythical history of the Indomitable Lions. All behind the Indomitable Lions.”
Prior to his appointment, Song worked as Cameroon’s home-based Indomitable Lions’ coach between 2016 and 2018, briefly as national team caretaker coach in 2018, and Cameroon U23s coach from 2018 until the recent appointment.
