A Ghanaian businessman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) has reportedly submitted a huge bid to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
Earlier in March, the Russian oligarch announced that he was selling the club as calls for sanctions against him increasingly become louder as a result of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Since the Blues were put on the market, a host of billionaires have shown interest in buying the club, including Egyptian tycoon Loutfy Mansour.
As we reported earlier, Bernard Antwi Boasiako has now also thrown his name into the hat after he revealed that he has submitted a bid $3.1 billion for the London club in a letter made public on Wednesday.
“I am informed of the intention by the owner of your reputable club, Mr Roman Abramovich, to put up Chelsea Football Club for sale,” the letter read.
“I am by this letter writing to officially declare my intention for the purchase of same.
“My official bid is in the range of three point one billion dollars ($3.1 billion).
“My legal team and transactional advisors are ready to engage in negotiations.”
Despite negotiations still being in the early stages, Boasiako also insisted he would try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Vinicius Junior for Chelsea if his bid is successful.
“I want to go and buy the Chelsea club. I am interested in it,” he told Wontumi FM.
“Those who buy clubs are not footballers but business people. I am also a businessman. I’m into gold mining… Why can’t we [buy the club]?
“I want to join the bid. If I become the owner, I want black Brazilian in Real Madrid, Vinicius, and sell off [Romelu] Lukaku.
“I will speak with Manchester United to see if I can also buy Cristiano Ronaldo for Chelsea.
“I’d also look at signing Lionel Messi.
“Abramovich has done his best. It is time for him to support a Ghanaian or an African to buy Chelsea.”
