According to Takoradi-based Connect FM, the former striker for Asante Kotoko, William Opoku Mensah has revealed his desire to land a call-up to the Back Stars following his explosive performance in Rwanda.
The former Karela United goal poacher has been in a stupendous form for Mukura Victory in the Rwanda Premier League since joining in 2021.
Opoku Mensah, 26, is currently one of the best performing Ghanaian players in Africa and a hotcake in East Africa following his outstanding exploits for Mukura Victory.
The former Eleven Wise goal poacher has bagged 21 goals with three assists in 25 matches for Mukura Victory this season, winning five most valuable players awards.
“Based on my performance in Rwanda, I know I will get the opportunity to play for the national team [Black Stars]”, Opoku told Connect FM.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are in Japan for a four-nation tournament after 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar and Central African Republic.
Dubbed the Kirin Tournament, Ghana will be facing Japan in the semifinal before coming up against either Chile or Tunisia.
Coach Otto Addo and his technical team traveled to Japan for the tournament without Arsenal ace Thomas Partey who is nursing an injury.
Hearts of Oak duo of Dennis Korsah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh are currently the local-based players in the Black Stars squad for the Japan tournament slated for June 10.
