Kayserispor defender, Joseph Attamah Larweh, has revealed that he hasn’t been afforded enough opportunities to prove himself in the senior national team setup.

The 28-year-old believes that the issue stemmed from 2017 when he was played in an unnatural position by then-head coach Kwesi Appiah.

The former Tema Youth player said he has mostly been used for friendly matches and not the competitive ones.

“That was in 2017. I have played in that position before and it wasn’t a difficult position for me but on the field of play, something happened in which I thought if my teammate was a little bit faster to cover the issue, I don’t think it would have been a problem for me,” he stated on the WarmUp Plus show on TV3 in an interview.

“Since then, things have been difficult for me. Whenever I get a callup, I come but I don’t get the playing time. It was like when I come they do not give me the chance. The only time I would get the chance to play is when we had a friendly game but when it comes to the qualifiers, I don’t play.”

But, Attamah is eager to work with current coach Otto Addo when he regains full fitness.

“Yeah [I want to work with Otto Addo]. If he calls me today, I will go if I’m fit. For now, I’m not fit. They just called me for the Japan game but I wasn’t fit because of my knee injury. The funny thing is it’s always a late call-up [for me]. They call a player and he doesn’t come and then they end up calling me late. I’m always calm about it.”

Attamah played 30 league games for Kayserispor in the 2021/22 season and netted two goals. His team narrowly lost the Turkish cup final to Sivasspor in May.
