The Aliu Mahama Stadium, located in Tamale, Ghana, has been disconnected from the power grid by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDco) due to unpaid bills, according to reports.
The stadium, which is named after the late Vice President of Ghana, serves as a popular venue for sports and entertainment events in the Northern Region of the country.
The disconnection of the stadium highlights the ongoing issue of non-payment of utility bills by public institutions and underscores the importance of timely payment to ensure the provision of essential services.
Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has disclosed that Aliu Mahama Stadium owes them Ghc466,000.
The company has urged authorities at the stadium to make a payment of at least Ghc300,000 in order to be reconnected.
Clubs that use the stadium for nighttime games will be greatly affected by the disconnection. A generator will likely be used for the games scheduled to take place at the stadium so that fixtures are not disrupted.
