Powell, who is currently in Ghana for the Max Velocity Speed Summit, hopes to have the best coaches and athletes in Ghana to achieve this goal.

“We want to make Ghana fast. We want to have the best coaches in Ghana. We want to have the best athletes in Ghana,” said Powell in an interview with TV3’s New Day.

The four-day event features an international team of coaches, led by renowned speed coach Loren Seagrave, who has previously worked with top football teams like Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus, as well as Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Around 50 Ghanaian student-athletes and their coaches are participating in the event.

“We’re so excited to put our research into action next week,” said Sports Equity Lab founder Dr Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu.

“By integrating cutting-edge techniques and bringing athletes from different sports, backgrounds, and abilities together, young Ghanaian athletes will have a unique experience to hone their skills. It’s great that legendary athletes like Powell share the vision.”

The Max Velocity Speed Summit includes a Sports Equity Talk titled “The Neurobiomechanics of Maximum Velocity Sprinting” at the University of Ghana’s Cedi Conference Centre.

The summit will be followed by Ghana’s Fastest Human Athletics competition in Tamale on April 29.

The event is expected to boost the country’s preparation for the African Games, which are scheduled to take place in Ghana for the first time next year from March 8 to 23.
