Brighton & Hove Albion are on the brink of club-record signing as they have reached an agreement with Ajax to secure the services of talented attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to the Athletic.
The deal, worth around €40 million, is close to completion and would break the club’s previous record. Kudus is negotiating personal terms with the Premier League club.
Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi is driving the move, seeing Kudus as a key player.
Last month, Chelsea were linked with a move for the Ghana international, but it appears Brighton have beaten the Blues to his signature, as they are close to securing his services on a potentially long-term contract.
While the midfielder remains under contract at Ajax until 2025, he declined a one-year contract extension in April, clearly expressing his desire to leave the club after arriving in 2020 from Danish side Nordsjaelland.
Kudus has spent an eventful three seasons in Amsterdam, showcasing his prowess with 23 goals and 11 assists in 84 games since his Ajax debut. He has also impressed on the international stage, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances for Ghana, including two goals in the 2022 World Cup. Brighton has rejected multiple bids from Chelsea for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
