Anselme Santos, the Ivorian football fan who gained fame in a viral video for engaging in what seemed like an intimate conversation with a woman at Charles Konan Banny Stadium during the Senegal vs. Ivory Coast match on January 29, 2024, has been officially identified.
The man, now an internet meme, was caught whispering to a captivating woman following Ivory Coast’s equalizer against Senegal.
Anselme Santos has now shared the backstory, revealing that he was attempting to get the lady’s contact details. Unfortunately, his pursuit was unsuccessful, leading him to publicly apologize for his actions.
Santos explained that the adrenaline and excitement of the moment overcame him, expressing deep regret for his behaviour.
He specifically apologized to his wife and children, emphasizing that his intentions were not malicious, but rather a result of the overwhelming emotions in the heat of the moment.
“In the euphoria, I told [the woman in the video] ‘Give me your number’. It wasn’t mean, but she didn’t want to. So I didn’t insist. I would like to take this chance to apologise to my wife and my children,” Actu Foot quotes him to have said.
Cote D’Ivoire secured victory over the 2021 AFCON champions, Senegal, through a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time and extra time.
As the host nation, Cote D’Ivoire has advanced to the quarterfinal stage, where they are set to face Mali on Saturday, February 3, at 17:00 GMT.
