President of the Ghana FA, Kurt Okraku has welcomed former president, John Mahama’s vision with excitement as he believes that the latter’s ideology will go a long way to help develop football in the country.
The National Democratic Congress flagbearer recently disclosed his next government will join forces with the domestic football governing body (GFA) to overhaul Ghana football following the Black Stars’ abysmal display at AFCON 2023.
He also mentioned the desire to nurture homegrown players and offer them to the right local clubs to ensure they have the right exposure before travelling abroad.
At a press conference in Kumasi, Kurt Okraku welcomed the former President’s vision for Ghana football.
“I’m very happy that the last few days, the former President John Dramani Mahama made mention of his desire to encourage our domestic players to stay a lot longer and to fight for recognition in the national team” he said.
Mr. Okraku added proposals have been sent to the current government for strategic interventions that will enable players to stay longer in the local scene.
“The policies we have rolled out is a testament of our believe that when we do the right levels of investment our leagues will grow and when our leagues grow, our players will be happy and when they are happy, they will stay in a lot longer”
“In our desire to make this happen, we have make proposals to government for strategic intervention that will make our players to get more money to stay longer and to be recognized by the selectors of our national teams in the attempt to build strong national teams. I believe government will support our call” he said.
