News reaching Citi Sports indicate that volunteers of the just ended 13th African Games held in Ghana have reportedly not been paid allowances due them leading to a standoff between the volunteers and members of the Ghana Police Service.
Following the conclusion of the African Games that had Ghana recorded its highest medal tally (69) including eight gold medal win on the penultimate day of the competition, volunteers have been ordered to evacuate hostels that accommodated them during the Games.
According to a volunteer, “We the Volunteers for the 13th ALL AFRICAN GAMES have been denied our due including TNT and are being forced to leave the Hostels immediately.”
Reports suggest each volunteer would be paid 2000 Ghana Cedis with an additional 500 cedis for transportation and 2,000 Ghana cedis as “allowance” or “appreciation” package by Tuesday, March 26 following the conclusion of the Games.
The Games concluded on Saturday, March 23 at the University of Ghana Stadium with some of Africa’s best athletes compete in various sports disciplines.
