On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the French Football Federation filed a complaint to FIFA against Argentine footballer Enzo Fernandez, leading to his club, Chelsea, announcing an investigation into his behavior.
Fernandez, 23, posted a video purported to be a racist chant against France players after beating Colombia on Sunday to win the Copa America.
Despite apologizing for his actions, Chelsea Football Club is set to launch an investigation into the incident, as the club and France defender Wesley Fofana have described it as “uninhibted racism.”
Chelsea have seven French players who are black or mixed race in their first-team squad: Fofana, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Lesley Ugochukwu, Christopher Nkunku, Malo Gusto, and Malang Sarr.
