The Ministry of Youth & Sports has declared that strict disciplinary actions will be taken against the group of Ghanaian para-athletes who allegedly absconded in Oslo, Norway, while intending to participate in the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon.

This announcement follows a letter from the Ministry of National Security addressed to both the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The letter revealed that an 11-member contingent from Ghana arrived in Oslo on April 25, 2024, to compete in the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon but did not show up for the event.

Subsequently, a search party apprehended one of the team members, Nana Antwi, a para-athlete, as he attempted to travel from Norway to Sweden by train.

The President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, claimed that his signature was forged by the individuals impersonating the team in Norway.

In response, the Ministry of Youth & Sports released a statement on Sunday, July 21, 2024, clarifying that they were unaware of the Paralympic team’s participation in the marathon.

The Ministry of Youth & Sports further stated they are collaborating with relevant authorities to investigate the situation and uncover the details surrounding the incident.
