The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that upgrading the University of Education-Winneba (UEW) into a modern sports university will be undertaken should the NDC get voted into power after the December 2024 Polls.
This forms part of the NDC’s sports section in its manifesto that was officially launched on Saturday, August 24 at UEW in Ghana’s Central Region.
Flagbearer for the party in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, John Dramani Mahama and other top dignitaries of the party were present at UEW to launch the manifesto.
The launch comes six days after the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) launched their manifesto that was highlighted by the promise to provide a bus to each team competing in the Ghana Premier League and upgrade national stadia to meet international standard.
Upgrading the UEW’s Sports College into a full-fledged sports university has been widely suggested as a major point to develop sports in Ghana by training coaches in various sports disciplines.

Aside the above mentioned item, the NDC outlined plans to “support national athletes more consistently” and undertake emergency refurbishment of national stadia in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Cape Coast and Sekondi to meet FIFA standards. Scroll down to read full manifesto on sports.
