The club released a communique announcing the disappearance of defender Esmat Abdulhamid Mohamed Al Hasan and forward AbdoelKarem AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub from the team’s camp in the Washington DC area.

The club’s statement added that the aforementioned Sudanese pair’s whereabouts are still unknown and that the appropriate authorities have been contacted over the situation to ensure their return to Ghana. Kotoko fly out from the US to Ghana on Sunday, October 13.

Kotoko moved to the US to honour the Capital City Africa Cup game against Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United but Kotoko has since withdrawn from competing in the game.

This was down to several Kotoko players’ request for travel visas turned down by the US Embassy in Ghana that forced Kotoko to attempt fielding a team with some Medeama SC players to honour the game prior to the announcement of the withdrawal on Friday, October 11.

Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, recently praised the performance of Yagoub after the team’s 1-0 win over Accra Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

“Asante Kotoko SC regrets to inform our supporters and the public that two players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, both Sudanese nationals, are currently missing from the camp.”

“The players left the team’s hotel without permission on Friday, 11th October 2024, and all efforts to contact or locate them have been unsuccessful. The club has officially notified law enforcement authorities in the United States and is cooperating fully to ensure their safe return.

We urge our supporters to remain calm as we work with the relevant authorities.

Signed,

IMC.
