Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has raised concerns about the declining state of sports in the country, emphasizing the urgent need for revival.
Football and other sporting disciplines in the West African nation have faced a significant downturn in recent years, with the latest blow coming as the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Addressing the state of sports, Mr Adams, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency, did not mince words in describing the situation.
Our football is in a sorry state. The only thing we have is past glories. We are four-time African champions, but our football and the state of our sports are in a bad state, and this is the time for us to come together and help raise the passion for our sports,” Mr Adams told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
He called on Ghanaians to actively participate and invest in the sector to restore its former glory.
“I want to appeal to Ghanaians to get involved and invest to help revive our sports because our sports is sick and needs to be healed, and it can only be done by showing love so it can be healed.
“Our senior national team is sick, and it has affected all other sports, and it’s about time we invest in our various sports,” he added.
With growing concerns over Ghana’s sporting decline, the minister’s appeal serves as a rallying cry for stakeholders and citizens to help restore the nation’s pride on the global stage.
