Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has opened up on his relationship with Ghanaian midfield great Michael Essien.
Speaking to 3Sports, Yirenkyi described Essien as “a good coach” who has what it takes to impact anyone.
Since retiring from professional football in 2020, after 22 years, Essien has been working with Danish side Nordsjaelland, where he has helped groom a number of burgeoning talents.
The Ghanaian midfield great, who worked with ace managers, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti among others, has previously revealed that he took a cue from their management style and embedded it with his philosophy.
After completing his Uefa License A coaching course in 2023, Essien took over the assistant coaching role at Nordsjaelland on a full-time basis.
Yirenkyi is the latest Ghanaian star to emerge from the Right to Dream, Nordsjaelland love tale.
His predecessors, Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Ernest Nuamah have gone on to feature prominently for clubs in the top 5 European leagues after tolling the same path.
Yirenkyi and Essien started working together this term, following the midfielder’s transfer from Right to Dream to Nordsjaelland.
“The team is very grateful to have such a guy. He is very good to everyone and the way he carries himself, I think is very nice that we learn a lot from him.
Yirenkyi’s debut performance for Ghana against Nigeria indicated that he could become the permanent successor of Essien – something Ghanaians have long desired.
