Toulouse FC have confirmed that Ghana international Francis Abu will be sidelined for several months and will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Abu, 23, was stretched off in Niigata after a heavy foul by Ao Tanaka early in the second half left his ankle broken trapped and twisted violently under the falling Japanese midfielder. He was rushed to Toyota Memorial Hospital for emergency assessment after receiving treatment on the pitch.
In a statement tilted: Stay Strong, Abu! Toulouse described the incident as a “ very serious injury” and confirmed the player’s season had come to an end.
Abu’s absence is a major blow for the Black Stars who had counted on the energetic midfielder as part of coach Otto Addo’s long term plans for next year’s World Cup campaign.
