Former Black Satellites goalkeeper Daniel Agyei has spoken out about the need for higher wages in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Agyei, who played a crucial role in Ghana’s U-20 World Cup triumph in 2009, expressed his concerns about the state of the GPL, describing it as “sinking” and no longer attractive.
Agyei’s main concern is the low salaries of players in the league, which he believes has made it difficult for the league to attract and retain top talent.
In an interview with GHOne TV, Agyei stated, “Ghana Premier League is sinking and is not attractive. The current salaries of players in the league are not good.”
The former Liberty Professionals player emphasised that the low wages are a major challenge facing the GPL, making it difficult for players to make a living from the sport.
Agyei’s comments highlight the need for urgent action to address the issue of player salaries and improve the overall competitiveness of the league.
The former Ghana international remains optimistic that with the right leadership and investment, the GPL can reclaim its former glory.
