African legends were paid $5000 each to play against the Senegal legends at the inauguration of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, Senegal on Tuesday, February 22, senenews.com has reported.
It adds that the Senegal legends also received $2000 to play and entertain the fans that were in the 50000-seat stadium.
Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Asamoah Gyan, and others were part of the African legends team.
The stadium will host the Summer Youth Olympics in 2026.
“It is in this beautiful den that our valiant lions will celebrate their conquest of Africa and the world,” President Macky Sall told the crowd.
The stadium, named after former president Abdoulaye Wade, who Sall defeated in 2012, is Senegal’s latest high-profile infrastructure project.
